Great lesson, I was wondering what relative minor keys were when I was reading about them the other day.
Are you just plugged straight in to your amp? How do you get that sound on your bass?
Thanks

It just takes listening to and imitating the phrases of the greats, in other words listen , transcribe and learn every nuance of notes played – slides, slurs, hammerons, vibrato, shakes…. And just as important as the notes themselves – you need to play with perfect rhythm/timing

Great lesson! this has helped open some doors and has also has taken some of the mystery out of soloing.

Now, it’s true you may be just simply playing notes from the major scale but, making your bass sing like that is a different story.

Could you go just a little deeper into this lesson to explain more specifically how you are developing those amazing phrases?

Thank you and your playing is a huge source of inspiration for me!

Thomas, you play in the space Anthony Wellington would call “Unconscious Knowing” and while your lessons are concise and, as usual, immensely helpful to me, there is a heart and soul to your playing that is felt. In the end your playing comes from the heart rather than the mind and that’s what makes you stand out. Much of these three installments are subjects I’m well familiar with, but listening to you apply the concepts in your solos is where I’m finding inspiration. Thanks again.

Well, when im doing it “properly” I record the video with a external camera (Creative Vado HD 3rd gen), and the sound from my amp’s (TC electronic RH450) direct output into Logic pro on my macbook. I then import the video into Logic and sync the audio to the video. After that i edit the video with new sound in iMovie.
Its a bit cumbersome and takes some editing.
When im lazy i just record direct both audio and video with the builtin webcam, but there can be latency problems and skipped videoframes if you dont have very fast computer . But look at my old setup on this page HERE

On an unrelated question; I am looking to start making videos of me playing bass for You Tube and my up and coming website. Please advise me on the best products to capture video and sound the way you do.

Thank you
Dwayne

Great Lesson Thomas!!! This is like the matrix of improv! A hallway of endless doors to open that all lead back to the same room! While studying the info in this lesson, I discovered that the Bm7b5 has the same notes as the Dm6.
By the way fantastic explanation; Home, Away from Home etc.!
Thanks so much for this one.

Murdy: Hey Marlowe, I bought the L253 in order toget the backing track. However, there is no backing track without the bass. Is there a way to get this?

hank: Thanks Marlowe! I guess I better start saving up. I can't wait to get one. I'm positive if I get one then my playing automatically gets funkier right? :)

MarloweDK: Hank: my sig bass will be presented at the Frankfurt musik messe in march. I dont know of the price but i guess it will be priced in the same range as Sandbergs California models. There is a couple of american retailers, check Sandbergs site.

soporific: Hi guys!

Harry Popper: hi, GospelBassMan

GospelBassMan: Hello community!!

hank: Will your bass be mass produced? Do you think it will be affordable (relatively speaking) Will it be offered online for us Americans that wanna buy it?

chooty: Thank you very much.

MarloweDK: Im really not into playalongs these days, more fun (and meaningfull for me) to do original music

MarloweDK: My sig bass is going to be released at the Frankfurt musikmesse in midmarch. I dont know anything about price yet
