„Guajira“ is a cuban rhythm quite similar to the rumba. Its origin is from the canarian islands (Spain), and so „white music“. Mixing with the black influences from african slaves in Cuba the rythm developed to the so called „son“. Guillermo Portabales is a typical composer of guajira songs (just check them out on youtube, f.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dat8FA6z45Y&feature=related )
This is so great, thank you so much for bringing a world music flair to this site! It seems that for me to really get in to this groove I had to find a couple subtle accent notes to stress, nothing huge or dramatic, just a slight emphasis…
I feel honored that you, Thomas and other hugely talented players take the time to share your gifts with the world!
Hola from Nuevo Mexico!

Hey Gigu!
Just a thought..
Since you’re really working with world-music, I was wondering if you do flamenco-stuff too. If not, but you’re interested, there are these cd’s on the market, called “solo-compas”, that can give you a good look inside the rhythms and time-signatures. I worked with them a lot in my guitar-days.
Bye kors
