This is a lesson 2 in this series, go to lesson 1 HERE or continue after this to lesson 3 HERE

iPod version here

Im just playing the notes from the triads  in a fairly strict up and down fashion over the music in this exercise – in a real playing situation i would of course vary the patterns – mostly put emphasis on root notes, use other rhythms , add scale notes etc..

But this is for you to get equally comfortable with the third (3rd )  and the fifth (5th) as well as the root

Now we use the C, F and G Major triads in a chord progression

CFGC

Another way to learn this is by looking at at the chords as steps of the major scale (for explanation revisit lesson 1)

We are in the key of C so:
C Major is the 1st step of the C Major scale,
F Major is the 4th step of the C Major scale,
and G Major is the 5th step of the C Major scale

Optionally you could look at -The same chord sheet as above where numbers replaces the letters making it much easier to transpose

1451

The positions revisited:

The C , F and G Major triads played in different positions up to the 7th fret, please memorize them, you will gain a great advantage in being able to break out of the “only playing root notes” box

It’s a good thing advertisers are recognizing the audience that you are able to reach… more power…

Cool. I wanted to see what you would do with this progression if it was given to you.

This is exactly what I needed to practice this kind of playing. Thanks a ton!

Can I request something? Can you make a video of you improvising a bass line over this without restricting yourself in any way?
Sure , ill do that next

soporific: Hi guys!

Harry Popper: hi, GospelBassMan

GospelBassMan: Hello community!!

hank: Will your bass be mass produced? Do you think it will be affordable (relatively speaking) Will it be offered online for us Americans that wanna buy it?

chooty: Thank you very much.

MarloweDK: Im really not into playalongs these days, more fun (and meaningfull for me) to do original music

MarloweDK: My sig bass is going to be released at the Frankfurt musikmesse in midmarch. I dont know anything about price yet

rfarina: Hey MarloweDK! Thanks for all you do! I've gotten into more funk over the last year thanks to your lessons and playalongs. How about a playalong of December 1963 (oh What a Night) by Franki Valli and the Four Seasons?

hank: Hey Marlowe, any words on when your signature bass is being offered on the market? Any idea on the price range? Really excited about it but I've only read one article about it.

Dug: hey thomas! i was hoping to get a tutorial request from you. it from the "funky filter fun" vid you did. i would like a tutorial from the 2:45 part to the end 3:17. i luv this groove. i've learned alot from u here!!!! thanks mdk!!!
